Calling local filmmakers!

Update: Thanks to everyone who submitted a film! We're watching them now. We'll send out emails in the next week or two.

If you're a Mid-Missouri filmmaker, we want to watch your short film. We’ll pick our favorites and show them on Wednesday, November 15, at 8:30pm.

We're doing this for two reasons: One, we want to see what everyone's been working on. The local film scene is more vibrant than people know. And, two, we believe in the big-screen experience and feel that it's important that auteurs know what their films look like on screen. That’s why we’re opening up our big theater to local filmmakers — students, professionals, or weekend zombie warriors — for one night. And without a submission fee!

Requirements:

You have to live in Mid-Missouri. You should plan on attending, if you can.

We’re looking for films no longer than 10 minutes. Though, if you have a 20-minute movie that you think is awesome, send it in and we’ll take a look at it. And if you’d like to submit a clip from your feature or work-in-progress, that’s fine too. (Please don't think of the 10-minute runtime as a goal for your filmmaking process. Your film should be as long or short as it needs to be to tell your story. We love three-minute movies!)

You can submit multiple films.

Your film should be appropriate for a general audience ... an R rating is fine.

Accepted filmmakers are guaranteed four tickets to the November 15 screening, which is free and open to the public.

There will be a Q&A with filmmakers.

How to get involved:

Get your film to us by Friday, October 13, at 6pm.

Drop your short off at the Ragtag box office between 12 noon and the last movie, M–F (see our film schedule for weekend hours). Bring it on a disk or jump drive. (A jump drive is best — we’ll give it back.)

Technical requirements:

  • Formats accepted: .mov, .mp4, 720 or 1080p preferred.
  • Frame rate: 24 frames a second works best on our system, but any frame rate is fine.
  • No more than three seconds of black should be at the beginning and end of your film.
  • Please double-check your credits for typos.

Please include the following, attached externally to the drive or disk (use a piece of string if you have to):

  • Your name and address
  • Email and phone number
  • Film title
  • Runtime
  • Aspect ratio
  • Frame rate

We hope to get acceptance emails out early-November.

If you have any questions, send 'em to [email protected].

Thanks!
