Black Independents, Vol. 1, 2020. Every February. In observation of Black History Month, Ragtag Cinema celebrates the legacy of black filmmaking in America. Throughout its history, these filmmakers have challenged popular representations of blackness, as well as the system of film production and distribution. Independent by necessity and largely unseen outside of limited circles, BLACK INDEPENDENTS exhibits and explores four unique films throughout the month of February that survey the varied waves of black independent cinema.
2019 was our ninth year for Homebrewed, Ragtag's ongoing survey of idiosyncratic and invigorating low-budget movies from U.S. directors. At 6:30pm each Wednesday in June, we screen a new film, and after the credits roll, we Skype with the filmmakers. Thanks to our long-time sponsors: the National Endowment for the Arts and Uprise Bakery.
Passport Series: 2019 was our 14th Annual Passport Series at Ragtag! Passport celebrates new international cinema from different parts of the world and takes place over five weeks on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30. Thanks to our long-time sponsors: the National Endowment for the Arts and Uprise Bakery.
Family Friendly: On the 3rd Saturday of every month, join us for a 10:30am activity with Children's Grove and a family film at 11am! Sponsored by Missouri United Methodist Church Arts Initiative. Free for accompanied children 12 & younger.
Extra Credit: Extra Credit is a collaboration between Ragtag and the University of Missouri's The Connector. Once a month, we'll screen a film and different researchers will join us to expand on some aspect of a movie.
