Thirty-five-year-old queer Moroccan artist Bouchra (Meriem Bennani) is struggling with writer’s block for her first film. When she begins having difficult but necessary phone calls with her mother in Casablanca, Morocco, her creativity is reignited and sets her on a journey examining her life in New York City, relationships, and the art she wants to make. The debut feature of celebrated visual artists Bennani and Orian Barki, Bouchra brings together animation, autofiction, and visual art for a moving exploration of queer identity and family bonds.
