Susan Seidelman's Desperately Seeking Susan is a film about two opposing women.

Roberta (Rosanna Arquette) is living the American Dream in decline—a loveless marriage relegating her housewife to a yuppie hot-tub salesman. Bored, she lives vicariously through newspaper classifieds like proto-social media. Driven by a personal ad from a punk "desperately seeking Susan," Roberta spies the New Wave it-girl herself (Madonna), and a series of events ensue involving amnesia, mistaken identity, and the mob.

Join University of Missouri researchers as we re-examine the fashion, the tropes, and the times of this deliciously 80s cult-classic.
