When ordinary mechanic Vahid (Vahid Mobasseri) has a chance encounter with Eghbal (Ebrahim Azizi), he believes that he has finally found the sadistic government intelligence officer who tortured him in an Iranian prison. Ecstatic about the possibility of revenge, Vahid rounds up his acquaintances who faced the same fate at Eghbal’s hands to confirm his identity, setting in motion a collision between past and present. Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Jafar Panahi’s (No Bears) It Was Just an Accident is a darkly humorous tale of revenge and morality.
