Slam

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize (Dramatic) at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival, Slam is a testament to the necessity of writing and creative expression. Multi-hyphenate artist Saul Williams stars as Raymond, a young Black poet who is imprisoned for a petty marijuana charge. Faced with the dangers of prison life, Raymond meets a writing teacher who encourages him to use his creative gifts to fight for his freedom and challenge the prison-industrial complex that led him there.
