Details About the Film

This film is part of the series SHOW ME: Season 3

In 2013, the Dominican Republic’s Supreme Court nullified citizenship of anyone with Haitian parents retroactive to 1929, leaving more than 200,000 people stateless–without nationality, homeland, or sense of belonging. Seeking to challenge this ruling and the anti-Black, anti-immigrant discourse that fueled it, attorney Rosa Iris launches a grassroots, social justice campaign. Director Michèle Stephenson traces the complex history that led to this historical juncture and uses a combination of magical realism and hidden-camera techniques to reveal the depths of institutionalized oppression. This screening will be followed by a community conversation led by the Middleton Center, exploring topics such as citizenship, race, and the histories of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Please note that FREE tickets for the public will be available at the Ragtag Box Office starting Thursday, May 16 at 12PM.
