Directed by Martin Scorsese with a script from Paul Schrader, Taxi Driver stars Robert De Niro as insomniac Vietnam veteran Travis Bickle. Wracked by loneliness, Travis takes a job as a cab driver in New York City, where he soon becomes consumed with thoughts of eradicating the filth and crime in the city by any means necessary. As his grip on reality steadily loosens, Travis stumbles upon an opportunity to become a “hero” when he meets a sexually trafficked child (Jodie Foster). Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026, Taxi Driver is considered one of the greatest American films and continues to influence cinematic portraits of troubled men.
