Beautiful, mysterious, haunting, invariably fatal. Just like life.

Details About the Film

This film is part of the series Bleak Week: Cinema of Despair

Still unable to understand an immense loss in their boyhood, a group of men gather to collectively share their memories of the five Lisbon sisters, sequestered from regular suburban life by their religious parents, who all died by suicide as teenagers in the 1970s. Featuring star-making performances from Kirsten Dunst and Josh Hartnett, the debut feature from director Sofia Coppola remains as one of the cornerstones of 90s American independent cinema and coming-of-age narratives for its evocative original score, otherworldly cinematography, and haunting vision of girlhood and femininity.
