Afterwords: God's Own Country

Nov. 17-21 Only!

Stay after the Monday, 7pm show for an Afterwords with representatives from the Missouri Young Farmers' Coalition.

Johnny Saxby (Josh O'Connor) works long hours in brutal isolation on his family's remote farm in the north of England. He numbs the daily frustration of his lonely existence with nightly binge-drinking at the local pub and casual sex. When Gheorghe (Alec Secareanu), a handsome Romanian migrant worker, arrives to take up temporary work on the family farm, Johnny suddenly finds himself having to deal with emotions he has never felt before. An intense relationship forms between the two which could change Johnny's life forever. God's Own Country is a passionate, hopeful movie that demonstrates great respect for its characters and their work.

"One of the better gay romances ever put on film. What distinguishes it is its commitment to being both sexy and romantic. Lee shows sex and physicality without just referring to it in narrative ellipses. The choice heightens both the eroticism and the intimacy. Think Brokeback Mountain but with more dicks and less tragedy. It's a better film, too." (John Ousler, Village Voice)
