Show Me Series

SHOW ME: 17 Blocks

with Boone County Community Against Violence

Opens Sep 30, 2021

In 1999, the Sanford family began documenting their lives 17 blocks from the US Capital building. The footage tracks 20 years of struggle and resiliency in the face of crises that grip our communities.

Boone County Community Against Violence joins Ragtag Cinema to talk about empathy, resources, and strengthening our city.

About the series:

The Show Me Series is a nod to our long-established proclivity as Missourians to approach new things with a hint of skepticism (until we see it for ourselves, of course). As well, a challenge to show our community all the possibilities shared experiences with film can hold — and the potential to serve as a catalyst for conversations that can move our collective pendulum closer to equity, inclusion, and unity.

Rooted in media literacy, and challenging the cinema canon — post-film discussions will take us beyond content, to interrogate form, intention, and reaction — and weave historical contexts with the here and now.

Ragtag Cinema is honored to co-host the Show Me Series with our Community Partners.

The Show Me Series is monthly, and free to the public.

Tickets to free events are available at our box office starting at 12pm the day of the show (unless otherwise noted). No more than four free tickets will be given to one person. A free ticket guarantees you a seat until 10 minutes before showtime, but not after. If all tickets have been distributed and there are open seats at 10 till, we will start seating the theater from the waiting list (queue). Ticket holders will continue to be admitted at this time if seats are available. This policy allows us to start on time and give the audience a distraction-free experience.

As of September 10, Ragtag will require everyone to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide printed proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the event.
