Join Ragtag Cinema on Monday, May 23 at 6:50pm in opening community conversation focusing on Audrey Diwan's Happening and the fight for reproductive rights in the United States.
We will be operating a sliding scale ticket system for this screening with the aim of making the community conversation more accessible and equitable for all.
Tickets are suggested at $10. You may select your own ticket price at purchase and we ask each audience member to contribute a price that reflects their own financial capacity. This honor system is all about “paying it forward” so if you can afford a higher ticket price, it will allow other attendees who may otherwise find the cost prohibitive to select to attend the event for free.
"It's hard to think of a film more necessary in the current moment."
–Little White Lies
France, 1963. Anne is a bright young student with a promising future ahead of her. But when she falls pregnant, she sees the opportunity to finish her studies and escape the constraints of her social background disappearing. Anne resolves to act, even if she has to confront shame and pain, even if she must risk prison to do so. Audrey Diwan's remarkable second feature is an impassioned adaptation of Annie Ernaux's eponymous novel.
"More than a biopic or period-piece, this is a stylish time capsule reaching into the present with unnerving clarity."
"a slice of clear-eyed French social-realism that will be meaningful to anyone who cares about personal freedoms."
