CoMo Famous 2022
CoMo Famous: The Last Dragon - presented by Mikel Fields
Opens Jun 14, 2022
Mikel has lived in Columbia for 35 years and runs Cracked up Mobile. He can't remember the title of the first film he saw at Ragtag but does recall it had subtitles. Mikel believes the best thing about Columbia is it brings people together from all over the world. We are a small town with big town ideas and aspirations. Hard pressed to make a decision on the best pizza in town debate, he uplifts 4 contenders: Pizza Tree, G&D's, Tony's, and the Mt. Rushmore pizza at Southside Pizza. You may find him at happy hour sipping a sidecar and trying to find his hidden talent.
In the 1970s, Motown Records, with founder Berry Gordy at the helm, carved out a place in cinema with Lady Sings the Blues, Mahogany, and The Wiz, but none of Gordy's silver screen aspirations kicked nearly as much ass as The Last Dragon.
Bruce Leroy, a Black martial arts master-in-training embarks on a quest for "The Glow" to save a beautiful TV show host and overcome the villainous Sho'Nuff the Shogun of Harlem.
An over-the-top throwback, a Black pop-culture touchstone, and the only martial arts film to feature DeBarge on the soundtrack — The Last Dragon is cult classic royalty.
"An intoxicating blend of comedy, kung fu, corny romance, special effects and rock videos, it's as electrically sleepless as the New York it's set against."
–Paul Attanasio, Washington Post
