We're very excited to bring you Miyazaki's latest animated film, The Wind Rises, this weekend. We just watched it and it is a beautiful, dream-filled tale of aeronautical engineer Jiro's love affair with flight. But before you bring your 5-year-old to it, there are some things you need to know. The MPAA has given it a PG-13 rating. This is probably due to all the chain smoking in the film. Though, there are brief scenes of war and catastrophe, and two adults sleeping in the same bed. The main reason not to bring your 5-year-old it, though, is that it's a historical drama, so the little ones (and some adults) might get bored between the flight scenes.
That said, if your 10-year-old is super into aviation right now, bring her or him and they'll probably have a great time. We did.
Here's a ratings breakdown from Common Sense Media.
