In Policeman, the next film in the Passport Series, Yaron (Yiftach Klein), a thirtysomething expectant father, belongs to an anti-terrorism police unit. Shira (Yaara Pelzig), a young member of the Israeli upper class, rebels against her upbringing by writing radical leftist poetry and befriending anarchist rebels. In his feature-length debut, Israeli director Nadav Lapid's camera astutely observes these two characters. It's entranced by their fierce rhetoric, the inherent contradictions and their humanity. The stylish Policeman uses a tense splintered narrative to offer an insightful, surprising portrait of Israel.
