Pruitt-Igoe Myth with director Chad Freidrichs in person: Wed., Nov 9, at 5:30pm
One night only! St. Louis' famed Pruitt-Igoe urban housing projects were supposed to be a modernist exercise in utopian habitats. Completed in 1955, the complex adhered to the overly optimistic city planning of the time. Of course, theory bumped up against practice, leading to deplorable conditions in less than two decades. Freidrichs has won wide acclaim for this expertly handled documentary, which played at T/F 2011, and it's time to showcase it again. "An uncommonly artful example of film journalism."
