The "We Always Swing" Jazz Series presents a special evening of two energetic performances by The Matt Wilson Quartet, featuring innovative percussionist and "We Always Swing" 2008/2009 artist-in-residence Matt Wilson and his two-horn-and-bass ensemble, on Tuesday, April 7 at 7:00 and 9:15 at Ragtag Cinema.
Critically acclaimed for his drumming chops, bandleading and composing skills, and skewed sense of humor, Matt Wilson has recorded eight albums as a leader for Palmetto Records, and also works with such diverse artists as John Scofield, Charlie Haden, Lee Konitz and John Zorn. His Quartet blends a whirpool of bop, Cuban carnival, and avant-garde and traditional jazz styles, and their energetic style will make for an exhilarating show. "May have created a new genre -- Garage Jazz." (The Atlantic)
Advance tickets ($20 public/$15 students) are on sale at the Ragtag box office, through Ticketmaster, and the "We Always Swing" box office (573-449-3001); and MU students can purchase their discounted tickets at Brady Commons.
