Moving between interviews and reenactments, this hybrid documentary explores the life and marriage of Switzerland’s most famous and provocative couple Iris and Peter von Roten. Iris, although trained as a lawyer, was relegated to strictly secretarial duties and left Switzerland to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia where she took courses in the English department that laid the groundwork for her eventual book about women’s rights in Switzerland.
Filming on location both in Switzerland and in Columbia, Missouri, Enemies in Love brings to life the 1930s for its discussion on love, politics, and cross-cultural approaches to feminism and women’s rights.
This free screening will be followed by a community conversation led by the State Historical Society of Missouri. SHSMO’s Beth Pike, who was the U.S. production manager of the film, will moderate the discussion with the Honorable Ann Covington, former chief justice of the Supreme Court of Missouri and Fulton resident Margot McMillen, author of The Golden Lane: How Missouri Women Gained the Vote & Changed History.
Please note that FREE tickets for the public will be available at the Ragtag Box Office starting Thursday, October 22 at 12PM.
No more than two free tickets will be given to one person.
